Equity has distributed theatre contracts at almost all levels of professionalization. At the top, the agreements between Broadway and the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), where most of Washington`s major companies – Arena Stage, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, Signature, etc. – are categorized in one of the five LORT categories. They are classified on the basis of cash receipts; The minimum salaries of actors range from about $600 to $900 per week. (Broadway rates are of course higher.) This agreement can be used in theaters with less than 350 seats in areas outside New York and Chicago. This national agreement, along with many individual letters, forms the basis of Equity Developing Theatre`s programs. The 10 salary categories are determined by the number of benefits and the maximum weekly duration of work. The agreement can be used in both commercial and non-profit situations, as well as for seasonal and individual productions. Visits are not allowed. The current agreement began on August 7, 2017 and expires on June 2, 2019. Who`s going to pay? Producers who must contribute $150 or more per union player each week to the equity health fund.
